“Clear your mind.” “Focus on your breathing.” “Namaste.” Nope, not always words muttered at school. Except when at Yoga Club.

Many new clubs have surfaced this year at SCHS. One new club in particular is Yoga Club, created by SCHS junior Mackenzie Bond.

“I got the idea to start this club last year when track pre-season had yoga every Thursday and everyone loved it,” Mackenzie said.

Mackenzie wanted to create a club that was enjoyable for many and that would provide relaxation. She wanted students to have a club that would help with the stress of school. Many people love to do yoga, but the cost for the membership can be pricey. Mackenzie said,

“I knew that I wasn’t the only one that thought a yoga membership at a studio was expensive. So, I figured I would see if I could provide yoga to more people for a very affordable price of only $5 a class. Also I really love yoga,” Mackenzie said.

She was excited to create a club that offered so many benefits to every type of student. Athletic or artsy, introvert or extrovert, freshman or senior, you can benefit from yoga. Mackenzie expressed that “The benefits of being in yoga club is it is very relaxing, and for many it makes the brain become more zen and focused on things. Some benefits for athletes is yoga stretches your muscles, so therefore you are less likely to get inured in your sport.”

If Yoga Club interests you, contact Mackenzie Bond and let her know you would like to check it out. Yoga Club currently meets on Mondays at 3:30 after school, but in November the club will meet on Tuesdays at 3:30 after school. The location varies, so be sure to communicate with Mackenzie if you want to join the group for some relaxation. Namaste.
